Saw this at Home Depot a little while
ago.
The driver was just pulling in to park
just as I was walking out so I quick
snapped a photo.

1957 Nomad without most of the trim.

The Nomad was Chevy's most expensive car in 1957.

Station wagons are the big thing these days in the rodding fraternity. That one is pretty cool but some of the stuff I have seen is a little hard to take. A few years back I was at a gas station when what I thought to be a new station wagon pulled up to the pumps. It was an Audi so some kind of a muckie muck driver I suspect. Anyways, I mentioned to him that I didn't realize that Audi made station wagons these day. He almost crapped his drawers when he heard me say that, he quickly corrected me with the proper terminology for that model and what they called it. Last time I'll ever do that .... ha!

I used to work in a shop that did suspension alignments. We had a cocky customer who's company converted exotic import cars to meet US emissions standards. He would come in once in a while with a customer car to be aligned. One day he came in with a Ferrari. I knew what it was and he didn't know me so I figured I'd take him down a peg or two. I went over and purposely Oooed and Ahhhed over it while I saw him grinning out of the corner of my eye. I then asked him, in a serious tone, if it was one of those VW kit cars. The guy went bazerk. I won't do that again.

ot politically correct to call a station wagon a station wagon these days. Gotta be a more yuppie name like shooting brake or some such $h33t.

Pretty cool, but a two-door wagon seems a bit less useful than the traditional four door.

Are those Ford F-150 rims on it?

(quoted from post at 11:19:48 06/20/19) Yabbut sumpin don't look right in the rear, like too much fin????????????????????

Its a beauty. I'd drive it if it was mine. Those tail fins look extra tall because the stainless side trim and two tone insert panel is missing from this one. Originals had it and looked better in my opinion.

JF ..... great story. Back in the 70's I worked with a guy named Walter. He was a pretty upper crust sort of character, wore sunglasses all the time (even indoors) and drove one of those ugly Citroens. Remember those French autos, they were totally ugly. Anyways, he had bought a brand new one (still as ugly as the old one) and we were in the parking lot leaving work one day and I said to him .... "Hi Walter, how do you like your new 411?" Remember the VW 411, next to the Citroens, maybe the ugliest car ever built? Well he sure put me in my place, he replied .... "It's a Citroen you silly twit!" Ha, that was pretty funny.

Yeah, too much fin and has it been shortened a few inches? Looks stubby. I still like it.

Looks completely normal for a Nomad to me! How does it look any different than this one?

The Nomads were two door only, and we're essentially the Bel-Aire version of Chevy's wagon lineup, at least from '55 to '57.

Stepping down were the 150 and 210 series wagons. They could be had in either 2 or 4 door.

There were also the Sedan Delivery models. They didn't typically have rear quarter windows, although I have seen some special order ones that did have glass in the rear. Too the SD had a one piece liftgate, as opposed to a liftgate and a separate drop down tailgate like the Nomad and the lower series wagons.

I've got two of the 1955, 210 Series, 2 door, Handyman wagons. The 4 door version of those that get shortened to 2 has a definite "stubby" look to it. As far as the Nomad in the pic, it looks completely normal to me.

(quoted from post at 22:46:49 06/20/19) Looks shortened,my cousin had 1 and it had 4 doors. Unless you could order them as a 2 door

The Nomads were all 2 door wagons.
Back in the 50s when I was a teenager, not many wagons
were very desirable except the Nomads.
Later in the 60s, 2 door wagons were pretty desirable but not
the 4 door wagons.
When I was in H.S back in the late 50s, one of the guys in my school used to drive his Dad's '55 Nomad all the time.
It had a 3 spd. (no 4 spds. then) and the 4 Bbl "Power Pack" 265
V-8, the predecessor to the famous "283".
I guess his 'ol man didn't mind buying tires cause Lenny sure did burn 'em up in a hurry. LOL

Chevrolet offered conventional 4 door station wagons in the 1950s, but all 55-57 Nomads were two-door.

If it was a 4 door, it was not a Nomad.

YES! Too much fin, and the wheel wells are not opened up enough for it to be a Nomad.

Why does the badging indicate a "Bel-Air" and not "Nomad"

LOL, reminded me. When I was stationed at Ft Knox my 1SG was real picky about his reserved parking spot. Don't let him catch you parking there even on a weekend for just a couple of minutes kinda thing!

Well he ordered a new Buick. Bragged about it for weeks till it came in. First day he had it I needed to get some paperwork to get a soldier promoted. Walking through the parking lot I saw this new silver Buick with temp tags in his reserved spot. So I got to the company area, walked into his office and said "Top, someone parked a really ugly silver Buick in your spot"! He jumped up from his chair, then it dawned on him  ! I will not repeat what he said about me!
