JD 8450 Trans

Hello, I have an 8450 and when I shift from 2 to 1, or 4 to 3 in any range it makes a loud bang noise when not under load, also the same when the clutch is released in park or neutral, I m guessing it s not good news, thanks

Check u joint from engine to transmission and the
splines? Id check it first

There are no y-joints between the engine and the transmission,,the noise you are hearing is the Hi/Low shifting,, it sounds louder on the old articulated tractors because of the big open clutch housing making a kind of echo chamber.
