Help with a David Bradley Walk Behind

Good afternoon all, new to this forum, but not to Yesterdays tractors. I recently acquired a 1950's David Bradley 2 wheel walk behind with a sickle mower. Came with a spare engine, which I already had to rob the ignition point plunger out of(the engine in the tractors plunger was swelled up and stuck, had to drill it out) The exhaust valve was stuck, I pulled the valves, ground the seats and lapped the valves. I'm at the point of needing a head gasket, and everywhere I've looked, and the people that I've contacted all gave the same answer "that's an old engine, I don't have a listing, sorry" The engine is a Briggs & Stratton Model 142402 Type 502028. The other item I'm in need of are tires. The 6.70-15's that are on it, needless to say should be replaced. The Sidewalls are missing, and something has been chewing on the tread. I live in New England, in New Hampshire on the VT border. I know most people like to know where your from. Thank you all in advance

If you did not mess up the old head gasket and it is a metal one stick in in the oven at 400 or so and let it sit there for 30-60 minutes turn the oven off an then reuse it with copper coat

It is a common Briggs & Stratton 14 cubic inch engine. NAPA auto parts used to sell it as part # 7-02420. Briggs & Stratton sold just the
head gasket as # 207340 or in the gasket set # 295970. I hate to think how many of the new old stock gaskets I threw out.

Here is a set for sale with your gasket.

Unfortunately when I pulled the head, the gasket came apart or I would have. Good thought, thank you.

Thank you for the info and the lead, I will place an order!

I once made a head gasket out of Permatex silicone for a lawn mower, about 45 yrs ago. It lasted for 2 years, before it blew. It seemed to have a little more power, because of the raised compression. The piston was kissing the head, so I went and got a gasket finally. Mark .

There is a gasket on e-bay now under "NAPA 7-02420" for $21.39 which includes free shipping. Good luck!

Some years back there were 4 or 5 David Bradley sites on the internet. Not sure how many are left as old tractor interest has kind of died off a bit. Worth a search.

I imagine any 15" tire from 5-7.50 or maybe even 8.50 inches wide can be made to work. Not a lot of ag tread 15" tires out there though.

He does not want to put a tire any bigger diameter on it than the 6:70X15 as he could hardly run fast enough to keep up with it as they are already geared way faster than a good walking speed. If he could find a pair of 5 lug 14" implement wheels and get a set of smaller 14" car tires on it it might slow it down enough to actually work. I have had 2 of those tractors and I could not walk fast enough to keep up. Uncle later had one of them and he tried putting a bigger pully in to slow it down but did not work.
