I believe I learned that the part I'm asking about is the cyclone separator on a hammer feed mill that connects to tractor, and how important it was?

It does separate some of the dust but without it you would have a big pile of ground feed blasted in one spot with great force. The cyclone lessens the output force of the blower. It could also redirect the flow
depending how your grinder is configured. If you think it gets all the dust out, just dump a scoop on your head and see if it itches. Lol

I know it does not get all the dust out of feed for sure! That's why I was wondering how important it is. This is a hammermill with a auger underneath that feeds ground feed into the mixing tank. Don't see how this could have any impact on how the feed moves. Thanks for the reply.

It is very important... the fan is needed to draw the ground material through the screen. The dust collector then captures the dust caught in the fan draft, and deposits it back into the feed. If you
attempt to run a hammermill without the fan, it will plug very quickly.
