Got to Run The 145 Plow Today

A friend does bees and we have been trying to grow flowers, clover, etc. Weeds and Quack Grass keeps taking over but that is another story.

So I plowed a patch today for Clover and Flowers. I got a chance to use my Red Plow again.

Ya, I couldn't resist. Every good story has a center post.

I got rid of the depth wheel. The JD Load and Draft controls works very well. You just need to set them up. The wheel widened the plow another 15" and would often rub the ground or stop the roll over. It is just not needed.

Like SV suggested I got rid of the Dual Piloted Check Valve and tried it. It seems to work OK. I used a JD 3" X 8" 3000lb cylinder. Most tie bar cylinders are 2500lbs.

Of course it does not work as well as the JD system. The JD system just needs the SCV lever moved once per roll. The 145 system needs the SCV lever moved twice per roll. You have to move the SCV lever at the right moment but I must admit I was getting better at it.

I installed Live Swivels so as to not twist the hose. The original system did not have the Live Swivels. I guess they depended on the couplers at the tractor to turn.

I had removed one washer on each right and left rollover stop. Here is a view from the rear. It seemed OK but I must admit I am still ignorant as to how to set those stops and what to look for. ACG I believe had given some input on that. I will go back and look for it as I cannot recall all he said. If anyone cares to tutor me on rollover stops I would appreciate it.

My front bottom is still taking a narrower cut but is a little wider. The tractor tires are not set as the manual suggests so that is my next thing to adjust.

It was a good day. I plan to till the patch and plant.

I don?t understand the two cylinder cycles to roll the plow is it some kind of cam mechanism? By looking it looks like you have the rollover stops set about right the rear bottom isn?t cutting a lot wider furrow like It looked like before

Sv the plow rolls half way and the cylinder is retracted. It is at the shortest part of the cycle. Then he has to extend it to complete the roll. It is the same for both directions. IF you look the anchored cylinder pivot is dead center on the plow frame. So when the plow is exactly half way through the roll the cylinder is straight up/down and retracted to the shortest length of the cycle. If you stop then the plow might roll back the way you started. You need to roll momentum and timing the extend correctly to complete the roll.
