My 14 hasn't been started since last fall. Fired right up on about the 45th pull. Seems to be able to sense when my strength is just about
gone. Put new tires on the front of the WD, and now one of them is flat.

Nice looking tractor. Did you rob the steering off a F12?

the gas is evaporating out of the carb. It takes that much cranking to pump the gas UP to the carb.Maybe you can try squirting some gas into the carb if it sits awhile.

I noticed that it looked more like a 12. I am not aware of any differences in a 12 and 14 except the steering wheel location

AFIK the 12 had a straight post under the seat with no lift assist and they just turned up the governor for the extra power

The F14 was increased 200 rpm to give it the two extra horsepower. The input bevel gears were changed to keep ground speeds the same. One less tooth on the input pinion, one more tooth on the upper shaft.I put F-12 gears in an F'14 once. Increased ground speed some. But not by much!LOLBoth F12 and F14 could be had with either the straight 'post',or the power lift.Other differences wer the steering post and the hand brake levers.

My Dad was still using this tractor in the 60's. He robbed parts off a junk F12 including the front wheels. When I was in high school in
about '74, in auto shop, I ground the valves and put in new rings and got it running. We had a mower, so I drove around mowing down
thistles in the pasture. It had some non-original steering wheel, so one day I went and took the steering shaft and wheel off that old 12.
(wheel wouldn't come off the shaft). I didn't know the 14's didn't use the cast steering wheel, but I've always liked the way it looks. Next
time I went back looking for some other part, I got chased off by the guy who rented the farm. I think Dad had permission from the owner,
but the renter didn't know about it. Later, one of the rear rims split out, and I got a pickup, and blah blah, so the tractor sat in the
weeds til about 2002. I cleaned up the engine and welded on rear rims from an IH C and painted it. The rear wheel centers are original 14. The engine still has the rings I put in in '74. I think the F12 front wheels and steering wheel are an interesting part of the story, so I left them. They've been on longer than the originals. By the way, this is the first thing I ever drove at about age 6.

Whe I was doing the fixup, I had access to some junk tractors, so I got the parts for the steering brake system. All that was missing when I was a kid. Works fine now. Turn the wheel real sharp and the brake on that side comes on.

Not sure if it is just an F-12/F-14 thing but mine seems to be the same way. If it sits any length of time, usually more than a few weeks, it takes quite a bit of cranking to get started. I've counted and somewhere in the 40s sounds about right for number of cranks to start, must be about what it takes to refill the fuel line and carb. Once its been running though it usually starts on the first few cranks.

Looks to be a pretty nice tractor, though it looks like someone put a F-12 steering post on.
