Disc harrow blade selection

As you can see I broke a blade. The disc has always left a little trench on each side. Would you recommend putting outside blades on with a little less pitch or perhaps size smaller? Also why are some notched and some smooth?

Smooth blades do a smoother job, notched blades cut better. If you go with a smaller blade there you should also out a smaller one on the front as well. But those 4 slots in the outer casting on the axle are for an extension for a smaller blade to help with the trench left. They are not hard to find.

Notched ones cut deeper and are usually on the front if using a combo of smooth and notched. It looks like the ones on back are larger and that may be why its leaving a trench on the sides.

Mine has a smaller size disc on the outside so it won?t leave A ridge I?ve pulled it 6 mph and no ridges

Notched blades are usually used on the front- they do a good job of catching corn stalks and cutting them up.
