Today our Deere 4520 developed a pto noise while chopping hay. The hay was already raked up into double nine ft windrows. We had to change the chopper over to the 4230. The 4520 has a 4620 engine with an intercooler and was dynoed a few years ago at 160+ hp the 4230 is about 110hp. We went from third on the 4520 down to A2 on the 4230 with your foot on the clutch when any bunches appeared. Running a rock in that shoved three knives back and took a healthy chunk out of two more on the 3940 chopper did not help things either. We reset the shoved back ones and resharpened the rest as well as setting the shear bar. The whole set of knives is shot so will need them before third goes in the silo. Silo got full with two more loads in the field to chop. Maybe it will settle enough to get one more in. I think the 4520 has a pto finger flopping around the way it is knocking. Will need to do split. As if there was not enough other work to do. Tom
