Orchard grass

Guys,
I have an established orchard grass hay field that stand is becoming sparse. Ground is rough so thinking about ripping with tufline ripper 3-4 inches deep and over seeding with traditional grain drill.(has seed box) . Also open to suggestions about seed selection for horse hay--like presist orchard grass and thinking about Timothy or lespedezia?

If you are selling it to horse people you want some timothy. If it is for yourself go strong on the orchard grass. I like bromegrass too. What I don't like about timothy is when bad weather puts you behind the timothy turns to lumber while the orchard grass keeps putting up an abundance of green leaf.

A ripper will leave not a very good seedbed you?ll get a lot of big chunks . I planted some grass in an old pasture I cut for hay I drilled it last November and this spring it?s really coming thick . I used a power harrow with a rolling basket on the back and it did a pretty good job . I think if it was me and I didn?t have a disk or anything but a ripper I?d wait until a good rain then harrow it several timers with a spike tooth harrow ,double drill it and roll it or harrow it again if Your drill doesn?t have press wheels
