My '11 M7040 with 1500 hrs on tach died when my daughter backed it out of barn. I've cleaned the water separater filter, installed new fuel filter, made sure tank was FULL of fuel, blown compressed air from water filter to tank to be sure of no restriction. Engine will start & run a few seconds then die. Next time I attempt to start no smoke is emitted from muffler. How does one check transfer(lift) pump mounted on inj pump?
Thanks for any ideas or replies.
Jim

Could be a lot of things. You might do a compression test on the engine. If you have valves that are not closing completely you might not be getting enough compression to ignite the fuel.

I take it that it is a self bleed, but for that to work you have to have straight fuel coming to the filter head. I would suspect air leaking in at a connection.

OK Jim bear with me, going to take time to tell you what is happening. On the front end of the injector pump is a fuel control solenoid, that unit has two coils one is powered with current when you turn the key to START and it pulls in to permit fuel to the pump, THEN when you drop the key back to the RUN position the other coil is powered. Your secondary or run coil called the hold in coil draws less current and is supposed to just hold the pin open. Your is dropping out, now several things can cause that. Firs is weak battery, second weak ground, then weak coil or connection. Pretty easy to check. Send me an e mail with phone number and I will talk you thru the check.

Sounds like JM will be able to help you out. Let us know what the problem was when you get it figured out. Us kubota owners are
lucky to have him around.

I emailed you my phone #. Old spin-on fuel filter only had 2'' of fuel in it when I installed new filter which makes me believe the problem isn't the fuel solenoid.
Thanks,Jim

Did you clean the fuel tank out, before you filled it?
Many years ago I had a CaseIH 585 tractor that I
bought new, and it had near 1,000 hours. It started
to act similar to what you describe. Finally took the
line off of the bottom of the tankwere the fuel came
out and drained the tank. Much to my surprise,
there was junk came out of the tank that looked
much like old facial tissue/Kleenex. Sometimes the
flow would stop and I would have to pull junk out
with a wire. Got the tank flushed out and refilled,
problems solved. Best I could determine the junk
was spider weds and cocoons that bugs had built in
the end of the fuel hose at our bulk tank in the yard.
I make it a practice to look into the end of the nozzle
now every time I pump fuel, and it is surprising how
often some darn dug has set up house keeping in
the hose. Any thing that can block fuel flow is a
problem.

(quoted from post at 17:46:07 06/02/19) sounds like you still have air in lines.

Bingo! The 1st 2 people I had helping me stated the hand pump had residence after pumping for a time. Guy I had come today pumped hand pump much longer but engine started. Neighbor that helped me today is a very experienced diesel tech. Thanks to all that replied especially to jm for phone call.

Disclaimer: Keep in mind I know how to bleed diesel fuel systems but because of my permanent nerve damage I must rely on other people to do what I advise them to do.
