Hi all,
I have a David Brown 780, 3 cyl, and I have always been told that it was a 880 selectamatic. Now we got a 880 bonnet to put on it, and it was way too big! Now with some research I checked the serial number, and it is a 780, 12 speed transmission.
Specs on TractorData say that the engines are identical, so why is there about a half a ton difference between them?
We bought a loader off a DB white 880(they said), and it wouldn't fit. The brackets have 4 holes at the back, spread apart a bit too far for the 780, and one large hole for a pin at the front. Looks more for a red DB. Any ideas?
How does a loader run on a 780?

Why should they be the same????? They were two different models, built in different years. Someone gave you the wrong info to start with. A DB 990 is not the same as a DB 995/6 either. ----------Loren
 
I happen to need an 880 hood...



The 780 is a small tractor all the way through. Frame is about 2-3" inches narrower than an 880.

The 880 is more like a 990 with a 3 cylinder engine stuck in it. heavier axles, more iron in the frame, bigger fuel tank. The 880 does have a large pin near the front axle to hang implements on. The 880 has a 2-3" diameter hole horizontally through the bell housing that braces the two sides of the loader together. no other DBs have this that I can think of, makes it really easy to spot. Also 880s are very narrow at the engine, all other DBs are basically same width from the clutch forward.

If its a DB loader, there should be a tag on the right side with a model number. A 780 loader will end with a "7", LS7 etc... an 880 one will end with an "8" L8...

I'll keep you in mind. I think I can use the front half a 990 hood I have and the little bit of the 880 hood that Is left hanging on it...

Shame valiant is half way around the world, I have a 3800 hood which should work for him.
