Tractor driver impales Sheriff's car

Do any of you Iowa folks live near where a guy in a tractor tried to kill the sheriff with the bale spear on his tractor ? He only impaled the car and missed the Sheriff who was inside the car. I don't know how to link the story or I would.
 
GRAND RIVER, Iowa (AP) - A southern Iowa man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly using a tractor to spear a county sheriff's car and push the vehicle more than 100 feet.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says Decatur County Sheriff Ben Boswell and two deputies were called Thursday afternoon to a family dispute at a home near the tiny town of Grand River.

The first deputy who arrived was confronted by 54-year-old Gerry Greenland, who was driving a John Deere tractor outfitted with a front-end bale spear. Police say Greenland drove toward the patrol car but the deputy drove out of the way.

Greenland then drove toward the sheriff's car, piercing the driver-side door and pushing the car until finally stopping.

Deputies arrested Greenland on the attempted murder charge.

Boswell wasn't hurt.

It wasn't clear from online records if a Greenland has a lawyer who could comment on the incident.
 
It's clear to me the tractor driver probably wasn't wearing his glasses, thought he was spearing large round bales wrapped in white. Needs a country lawyer to help him out.

...of course, he wouldn't be spearing them after they were wrapped, so there's that small detail to hammer out.

See--he wears glasses! The "Round Bale Defense" could work for him. Didn't have his glasses on, thought he was moving bales around.
 
What are the cops suppose to do not come when called? The guy is obviously an Idiot for starters,hopefully drunk and not that stupid all the time.I'd suspect this ain't
the first time the cops been to that place.
 
SV really? Someone obviously called the cops? What were the cops supposed to do? Ignore the call so you could complain that they didn't show up after he killed someone?

Yea, 2 deputies and the sheriff himself showed up? For a domestic? This wasn't the first time the cops were at that rodeo.

Family disputes seem to bring out the worst. A former police chief from Texas was just convicted of two murders, near Rochester NY. Apparently he was part of the losing side of a custody battle, and couldn't stand it.
 
You can hide a bunch of cars behind that somewhat off center post, air intake, muffler, so it would make an excellent defense.
 
A close friend of mine lives in Grand River and said there have been some issues there for some time.
