I feel dumb asking this question--I should be able to answer it BUTttt. I have John Deere 1520 a nice small tractor almost garden size--everything is hydraulic( power steering, power brakes. It has a hydraulic leak and I can't find it! The reservoir is the rear end (pumpkin) and it leaks down over-night such that there are not brakes. If I pump madly I can get brakes but as soon as I release them start pumping. The fluid does not seem to come out of the tractor nor does it leak into any other reservoir. Where is it going?

You have an internal leak. It could be in the brake valve or it could be back in the axle housings. I have caps that fit the hyd lines on the brake valve. You remove the lines and cap them and pump up the brakes. If they stay up then your problem is the packing in the rear axles. Tom
You just need to rebuild the brake valve. They go bad and let the oil leak back past the master cylinder pistons.
It could be air in the brakes and that is easy to do. The bleeders are in the top of the final drive housing on each side. Get them to loosen up. Then with them tight pump up your brakes and loosen the bleeder. You can do this your self as you can reach the bleeder from the seat.
I still think it will end up being the brake valve.

Tractor holds 10 gallons in the trans and rear dip stick is on the rt side behind your heel when sitting on it. There is a pump in the trans and one on the front of the engine, if it were leaking and you couldnt see anything on the ground the only place it could go is the clutch housing and it should be leaking out the weep hole in the bottom.

When I bled JD utility tractor brakes I always have engine idling so brake valve reservoir will be supplied with hyd oil because trans pump supplies hyd oil to brake valve
