Hardest part of restoring a tractor

Depends on if your doing a true restore as in bring it back to what it was the day it rolled out of the factory or if you just putting a paint job on which is not a restore.

A true restore one has to take it apart to every last part clean it up and bring it back to factory spec. or better so time cost and cost

That depends on your definition of "restore" I prefer to refurbish them. Just fix what need fixing,
modifying some features to suit my needs, and give them a new coat of paint.I prefer function and
appearance over originality. If you enjoy the process, it is not work---------Loren

Cleanup and stopping leaks.
The clean up to look nice even
for an average paint job is
many many hours. And getting
all the leaks stopped on an
old tractor only lasts til you
move it.

Who knew there could be so many right answers to one question. LOL I'll add one more - finding a place to tear it apart as I don't have a shop I can pull it into.

I would say finding a broken casting, something critical and impossible to repair or find after you are already $$$$$$$$ in the hole.

Or loosing something, breaking something, doing something really stupid, causing major delay and costing more money!

2 things: The time when you run into another 'problem' and then wonder why you started in the first place. And staying focused enough to get
done.

The third thing that one time was when Mother told me I wasted my money on it. But it did make me determined to finish it.

I'd say finding the money to do it was first. Then unless you completely dismantle the tractor and re-do everything you end up getting done only to find out it needs more work. I restored mine only to find out the hydraulics needed a complete overhaul.

Finishing the previous project that is taking up the space and time when you find the next project.. If the shop is empty and there isn't a line of projects outside look again I must have moved...

Tearing it down and sandbalating. Once I see a few painted parts and starts going back together, I start getting
more enthused and excited.
