USS Batfish sails again

The article said they made a path and flooded it to float it in. Pretty cool those veterans got together and made this happen, people get to see what it was like to be in one of these. Similar to the remaining flight worthy aircraft that tour the country, they can get a glimpse of what it was like, all of that is lost over time and the sacrifices made can only be learned through description vs seeing the real thing.

We all can do our part to sink Chinese shipping...
I once went to five different hardware stores to find US made steel round stock.

I read a longer, more detailed account of the move some years ago but can't find it now. The article below mostly just skims over all the hassles they went through but gives you some idea. The Oklahomans really did us a great service by saving this sub.

Same thing happened to the Carvella, a sub on display at Seawolf park in Galveston.

It lifted off it's resting place during a hurricane. Didn't go floating away, as most of the hull is rusted through, but sort of rolled on it's side.

Took a lot of work getting it back upright and cleaned up.

I live about 30 miles from the Batfish, it's first on the list of places to visit when someone visits from out of state. They brought it up the Mississippi to the Arkansas then dug a channel to where it sits.

The boys have it under control, keeping it from being swept down river and ending up like the two barges that got loose. We do not need any more rain...

Don't think one sub would be enough. I watched a freight train the other day and most of the containers said China Shipping on the side. There were a few that said Amazon on the side but there was Chinese writing below.

I was there last year. One of best preserved WW2 era subs I've ever been on, and I try to visit every one I find in my travels. Kudos to the volunteers that take care of the Batfish and the museum.
