So what herbicide is any better for you. Proper precautions have to be taken with any herbicide. I haven't seen how most of the complainants came in contact with Roundup. Did they contact it by breathing the mist or direct contact by a spill or something similar?

First safety warning in the manual for ANY pesticide, regardless of the type or danger, bare minimum, wear goggles and rubber gloves when handling! RESTRICT it and take it out of the hands of idiots.

I like the recent TV commercial about round up. They show kids playing in yard and warn of how they could be exposed to it. Well I'm pretty sure if it was on that grass it would all be brown and not green. LOL.

Weren't a lot of people claiming that Roundup was so safe a person could drink it? And how do you keep from having contact with a pesticide when its in your food and water?
Get a license to eat and drink I guess(LOL)

That could (and should) be said about many things.

While this recent thing with round up is based on a lawsuit which came about because a person misused a product. I can't help but wonder if this is "corporate karma". Monsanto is not exactly corporate citizen of the year by any stretch.

While Monsanto is best known and is being held liable for this. They are not the only maker of glyphosate resistant corn, beans, etc.

But regardless of the how and why I see big changes ahead for American agriculture. For good, bad or indifferent the snowball has been started down the hill and there's no stopping it now.

I'm allergic to penecillin. Wife is allergic to aspirin. Friend's throat closes up if he even so
much as tastes chicken. Operators manual for my car says used engine oil will give you cancer if
you handle it with bare hands. Asbestos gives you lung cancer. DDT kills everything. Man, I am
dead and don't know it.

Of course you have to be careful with herbicides, insecticides, etc, but starving to death is not
a good option either.

It would be GREAT if we could know the true facts about this and every other herbicide vs. the hype on either side, yet, sadly we do not.

Just like dihyrogen monoxide, every single human that has ever come into contact with it has died, sooner or later, yet it has not been banned. What's up with that?

History, tradition and the Bible say wheat is "the staff of life", yet it's now the food "bad boy".

What the heck?

Dihydrogen monoxide, man that's bad stuff, I almost drowned in it one time.

Why would people starve? We grew lots crops(food) before chemicals came a long, many farmers still do as a matter of fact.Grocery stores are full of food grown without chemicals. The 'we all gonna starve'
stuff is a bunch of B-S.

Last time I was in a court room as a witness in a lawsuit both lawyers made an opening statement. Then the plaintiff's lawyer introduced his evidence and called witnesses. The lawyer for the accused cross examined all witnesses. Then the lawyer for the other party introduced his evidence and called witnesses. The plaintiff's lawyer then cross examined the witnesses.

That's pretty much how a legal action for a lawsuit works. So I'd like to see/hear the evidence that has convinced at least 3 juries that Roundup is responsible for these plaintiffs getting cancer. Some 13,500 more lawsuits to go. Now I'm not taking sides. I know that both sides presented studies and had so called experts testify. So what convinced at least 3 juries to rule in favor of the plaintiff? And no, I don't buy the "they rule based on emotions". What made one expert witness more believable than another? What made one study more believable than another?

Just curious?

Monsanto, now Bayer, should be prosecuted for the new formulations of dicamba, and the mess they made with that.

The Roundup deal makes no sense to me, farmers that used glyphosate for decades are statistically healthy, a few folk that used a few ounces are somehow proof it?s
the only cause? Why only Sue Monsanto/Bayer, there is more generic glyphosate sold than actual Roundup brand product.

Seems like a get rich quick deal with lawyers preying on folk with a health tradgety in their lives.

Just can?t see the cases holding up. It seems so bizarre even Monsanto/ Bayer didn?t take it serious on the first round, they will have to get the big guns out for the
appeal.

On the other hand, the Roundup deal is old and not patented any more, Bayermight be happy to go half in on this: get the judgements thrown out but have glyphosate
disappear and then they can sell their new, patented products for more money?

Mom got non Hodgkin, funny thing is dad was too cheap to buy herbicides, she passed away while we were virtually an organic farm, she was never around the stuff.
She was a good gardener and canner, so pretty self contained to the farm.

"They don't rule based on emotions"? You don't remember the O J Simpson trial? Even O J was flabbergasted when they let him off after 45 minutes of deliberation- just a cursory review of the evidence by the
jury would have taken days.

Think about it from the standpoint of the average citizen, homeowner and voter:

After forty or more years of use, Ag chemicals have made it into the water supply where they have become a health hazard, a cost burden to remove, and a nuisance to the rest of the public. Why shouldn't their use be restricted to limit new entry into the water supply? Why shouldn't the manufacturers and users that benefit from those chemicals be responsible to clean them up too? If it was any other industry except Ag, it would be a done deal by now. Political protection is a temporary shield that just lets the final costs increase for everyone and only benefits a very small and shrinking group.

The amounts of ag chemicals are minute compared to the "other industries" that you say would be a no-brainer for cleanup. Around here there were some water wells where you could actually smell the dry cleaning fluid in the water. Those were cleaned up. Minute amounts of degreasers from the aricraft plants are still there right along with the minute amounts of ag chemicals. Sorry for the rant but I am sick to death of the chicken littles in this country thinking that one drop of anything, duluted billions of times, is a danger.

First off two wrongs don't make a right.2nd ag chemicals are so wide spread plus they are in the food as well as the ground water.Expect to hear more about the issue not less this ain't going to go away.
