That one got away!

1966 Oliver 550. Popped up on FB last night. Arranged with the fellas grandson to come look at it today in the afternoon. He told me I was the first to contact them. I called grandpa who told me the second guy in line showed up in the morning and bought it before I could look at it. Nothing I could do. Anybody who buys a tractor without seeing it is not wise. I dunno if it was a deal or not...looked pretty good in the picture. Had a 3 pt brush hog and box scraper in the package. $2800 for all. I was headed up to Flint anyway to pick up a metal brake. You win some and you lose some. Thinking it was a deal since he sold it in 24 hours. Anyone here snag it?

I know where there is an Oliver 550 in Western WI that is likely going up for sale. If you?re serious I will see if he is ready to talk.

Serious, yes. Crazy to buy another tractor? Not so much. It's a tractor I have looked at in the past and will one day buy. Right tractor, right day.

No,but I think I bought a one owner barn find Oliver over the phone last night. Details to come after I get a check written for it.

You and me both. I've known about that tractor all my life. In 64 years,I don't think I've actually seen it half a dozen times. A few times when I was a kid,I saw it sitting in front of the barn,a few other times,I saw it when the barn door was open. I didn't even know it was still there until I got a phone call offering it to me.

Are you ever going to tell us what it is? I am fully into IH but there are some Oliver's out there that really ring my bell. I have to head back out and get some work done whilst there is a bit of sun to maybe dry up some spots. Give me something to look forward to if I thought the curtain was going to come down tonight! LOL

Not yet. I don't know if I dare even give too many clues, might be some other locals who know about it. I'm still playing phone tag. I just talked to the daughter of the deceased widow. She said they'd passed on responsibility for it to their son and he was at work, but she told him last night that I'd take it for what they were asking. I've got his number and have to call him later today to make sure it's a done deal.

I would be irritated if it had gone any further. I had asked could I buy the tractor by itself, the second in line was apparently interested in the package. I should have jumped on the deal but....spilled milk.
