massey harris 444 electronic iginition and hot spark plug

i am looking for electronic ignition for massey harris 444 what is the best and in price rang from $100-$250 and i want hotter spark plugs what is the hottest i can run? :D

The conversion kits are available here. You'll need to match it to your voltage and polarity.

The Autolite 386 plugs are pretty hot. The cross references are not always exact, but you might find something a little hotter, but not much.

What kind of plug problems are you having? Getting the spark right, a working, hot thermostat, proper fuel mixture, and avoiding cold starts without getting up to temperature will help with fouling.

There are also non-fouler plug extensions if it's really consuming a lot of oil. I would only use them as a last resort and only on the worst cylinders.

Just a dumb question on my part----but why would you want a hotter spark plug? I always have used the coolest plug that will not foul up. Plugs too hot cause pre-ignition and other problems. Been doing this for 60 years.

This is what I have on my Farmall. You need real good cap and wires to contain it.

If I remember right you are the guy wanting a bigger carburetor.

Put a Pertronix on it, spark will be good and plenty hot, remember that you do not need hot spark unless you have high compression, just wasted otherwise.

FYI the heat range of a plug concerns its physical operating temperature and heat dissipation characteristics, that's NOT the same as whatever amount of energy gets discharged across the plug gap when the coil fires. IE a so called hot plug doesn't mean it has more spark energy or voltage !!!!!!!!!!!! it means it operates at a higher temperature

That being said if a tractor is an oil burner it can help to run a physically higher temperature HOTTER PLUG but if alls well and its not an oil burner the factory heat range should suffice REGARDLESS if you use points or a Pertronix Ignition.

A Autolite 388 is a tad hotter operating plug then a 386 if that helps if you want that for a "HOTTER PLUG"

If you want "hotter spark" as opposed to a spark plug that actually runs a warmer temperature (to stay cleaner)? You need a wider spark-plug
gap and/or resistor plug wires. To do that you likely need a new coil with higher voltage potential. If you want electronic ignition, you
want something like a higher end Pertonix and NOT the standard Pertonix. Much depends on what you are calling "electronic ignition." Some
electronic systems have points and low energy. Some electronic systems have no points and still have low energy like a standard Pertronix.
If you want more spark potential with a higher voltage - you need something like a Pertronix II or Pertronix III and a different coil, along
with wider plug gaps.

That all said, if you really just want a "hotter plug", a Champion D21 is the hottest I know of. Hard working engines usually call for
colder plugs and engines barely worked at all often call for hotter plugs.

Just want to add that the Champion D21 is the same heat range as what John T already posted with the Autolite 388. Both a step hotter then the standard D16 or 386. No brand loyalty here. I just tend to think in Champion numbers.
