Wiring for LED Lights?

I bought some LED lights to put on my tractor. Each light has 9 LEDs x 3 watts each for 27 watts.

Now I'm trying to figure out the wiring.

There are wiring kits on eBay and Amazon for $10, but I don't like the switches they come with. I don't like the mouse shape, there's no place to mount it, and I assume it's for inside vehicle use.

I'm thinking I need a waterproof switch. Not that I plan to work much in the rain, but it might set out sometimes.

How did others do the wiring on your LED lights?

Or did you find a wiring kit with a decent switch for outdoor use? I'm thinking I want an up/down toggle switch with round base/mounting, but not short out in rain.

I could just buy a switch and wires, I guess.

Would I need a relay? The specs say mine is 27 watts, so that's very low amps, like 5 amps, right? Can I just use wires, a $5 switch and an in-line fuse? What size wires? Would 16 guage be enough, for 10 amps?

Thank you!

Make it simple. Run your 16G wire from your lights to your $5 buck switch, and then run a wire with the in-line fuse to the ignition terminal on your key switch.

27 Watts/12 Volts = 2.25 Amps. I wouldn?t go less than 16 ga., not for current; but for mechanical durability.

LED?s are great for efficiency, aren?t they?

what case guy said and you can buy a rubber cover for the switch to keep water out it just screws on the switch

No relay will be needed for that light of a load.

Search for "marine" switches. They are designed for exposure to the elements. Ones with a rubber or plastic membrane cover are even better.

I just brought two LED 36 watt off amazon they have 18 ga wire leads coming out of'em... I ran my feeder with 14 ga trailer wire and 1/4" loom around it for the cover... A 100 ft roll of loom at O'reillys is not much are get 3/8 loom..

The switch is from the previous light kit I dunno what the specs on it is other than its been running all the lights I have add to it...

The lights they seam to do what I need on my zero turn... $27 for a pair...

LED lights are some times listed as the watts of light equivalent to a standard incandescent bulb. For example: I am looking at the box for the last LED lights I put in the barn; it states "100 watt replacement, uses only 14.4 watts". If your LED lights actually use 27 watts that would make the light output equivalent to 4 or 5 incandescent tractor lights.

Regardless the wiring is the same as for normal lights without the concern for heavy current draw. As posted do not use less than 18 ga wire to prevent mechanical damage.

What I have is an 1156 LED replacement bulb so doesn't have wires so may have to change tractor polarity.

Thanks

Why not just use the switch already on the tractor? I did that with our 1466 just wired so the old front lights come on in one position and the LED is on another that way I don't over load the switch and didn't have to add a switch.
