Burning Bees!

The Wife and I burned off the 1.41 acres we have in the pollinator program right above the pond. The wind was towards the pond but we still had our home grown fire department-The wife had a pump-up sprayer and I rigged up the sprayer we spray the lawn with. I took a big flood spray nozzle-TK-15-and put it on the outside all by itself and rotated the boom so it was pointing down and was able to wet the grass to contain the fire or drive slow and put the fire out. Had to re-fill once so brought a old milk strainer along and refilled out of the pond with a 5 gallon pail. The water was crystal clear but there were wigglies and green crap in the strainer pad. The doctor I used to take my Mom to said if you ever seen pond water under a microscope you would never swim in a pond. Whatever---Tee

Is a shame that in the socialist state of nj you cannot open burn without all kinds of paperwork, then notify them several days before, no wind, etc. Here in sj for maybe the past five years they have started doing control burns in the Warten state tract. Takes years for the scrawny black pines to recover if ever. Looks like heck. My two smaller wildflower plots I take my garden tractor mower and go one way and then the other so the organic matter and any seeds are put mostly in the middle of the plot. Looks reasonable. You are lucky to have no trouble cleaning your property.

MN used to have 3-day permits- now it"s a slick online app, $5 fee, and the permit is good for the calendar year. Each time you burn, you call in to an automated system, and it gives you a new permit number, which you must have on you when burning. Local sheriff is notified, so if a neighbor calls in he can verify that you are permitted.

Too bad the $100 million plus MNLARS car licensing system doesn"t work that well.

Them leftie, pinko tree huggers would flip out if they seen all the smoke and fires around here when we burn off the drifts in the river bottoms.

Just one more reason to love to live in the south, especially south Georgia. I needed to burn some leaves today so I called the automated number and punched in a few replies and va va voom I lit the pile(s). I have done this several times and never had anyone check me. TDF

i just planted borage today and pollinator seeds. got it from american meadows. they are in vermont.

Hey Big-T You and I have about the same type of fire fighting equipment -- I believe in being ready but with a low budget Plan- Hey when is the fish fry? There are fish in that pond arent there? I could bring My own pole and worms!Did You see what that 500 case brought on a local sale (1100) stuck engine worn out everything on it -- boy did You get a deal when You bought mine! Roy PS maybe Sv Cummings and Molly would like to help Me catch the fish !!

Hi Roy--I see your post about the 500 a while back-you must have not seen my reply--I thought you were telling me that I gave WAY to much for the one I bought from you--The payments are killing me!!!! I don't know what is left for fish in the pond--had a bad kill last August--One day the water was clear--the next day brown and fish starting dying. They say it "rolled over" and killed a lot of the weeds and the decaying took the oxygen out of the water. Kind of disheartening--fed them every night and then they die on me! But get a gang together and come out-we can still drink some beer and drown some warms! THANKS---Tee
