Have 47 Farmall Super A
Just got engine rebuild kit from yesterday?s tractor
Included was new bearing for the small end of the connecting rods
The bearing or better stated the brass sleeve that is in there now is very thin. So not much to push on to try to remove the old bearing.
Suggestions on how to remove.
Tried using a punch to tap it out.
Tried sawing through bearing with hack saw blade to provide relieve.
Still not moving when tapping on it with punch and hammer.
Have not tried heat or cold yet.
What have you done?

Take it to a rebuilding shop. The rod bushing is a nasty fit in the rod, and a very close "must be sized with a machine" situation. It is not a bench fix. Jim

Like Jan said, take the rods, bushings and pistons with the pins to an automotive machine shop. The have the equipment to press those bushings out (Or they can make it) and they have the hone machine to fit the new bushings to the piston pins.

The bushing will be undersize when its pressed into the rod and then it will need to be honed to fit the piston pin. There is only supposed to be something like .0005 clearance between the bushing and the pin. And if there is too much clearance it will rattle while running. So its not something you want to do yourself.

holy man, cant do that. its machine shop work and the bushings need to be honed to fit after installation. if you had a bushing remover set it could be done on a press but then they have to be sized. also at the same time the big end should be resized as it gets egged shaped. some material is ground off the ends of the rod and cap. then torqued to spec, then resized to factory spec. on a special machine. then the brgs. fit nice and have good oil clearance all around the .0015 crank to brg clearance. it is this type of stuff that scares me when someone says "motor is rebuilt".

I have a tool the presses the new one in while pushing out the old one. If the is an oil hole or slot you must " lead" it in the tool for aligment.
