Weekend work around the kingdom

Couldn't do much myself this weekend because I had a minor surgery on Friday, but my grandson Gage came over and helped a lot and so we got some stuff done anyway. Started with oil changes on all the tractors. He did most all of it himself.

Then we put the new seat on the 830. It's the wrong color, but came with the tractor, so we put it on.

Sunday day we ran some oats through my 77 combine to clean them a little. We got 12 bags of screenings from about 100 bu of oats. We had all the tractors in use too. Lol

Today we drove down to Cresco Iowa to pick up my new to me plow. It's a 6-16's and in nice shape. Hope the 1030 has enough power to it in my heavy ground.

We had a good time, and Gage even got to learn to drive on the 830. It is an excellent tractor for learning because the clutch is so easy to use and takes almost no effort

He had a blast and did very well for his first time. He's looking forward to doing field work if it ever dries up. Here is a video of him.
Gage driving alone for first time.

Good gracious Jon, no helmet and no roll over protection with that
mountainous hill he had to drive over?!?! Lucky he survived!
Looks like an awesome weekend. Go Gage! :)

He's 11. He is real small for his age, like his mom, and has a hard time pushing the clutch ok the other tractors. This one takes no effort because it's just a hydraulic valve. So it makes it easy. I learned to drive on Dad's 830 when I was very young.

Took a while to find the hill
you talked about. Lol He
handled it fine tho. Not much
for hills on my place.

Awesome !! That is the best thing in the world for both of you. I had a good doctor tell me the only minor surgery is when someone else is getting it.lol

Probably, back in the day, the 1030 was shown in brochures and ads pulling six bottoms. Unless your 1030 is VERY healthy, I think it will struggle in your "heavy" soils.

Plowing today is different- deeper and there is a much larger volume of residue. I am quite aware there is a guy pulling six bottoms with a 930. I still don't believe it, even though I have seen the photos... ;>)

Beautiful kingdom you got there! Great to see the grandson driving that tractor, looks muddy!!! Can't wait to see a video of you pulling that new plow!

That might be a bit much . But for everyday plowing they say 6 inches Is deep enough . I pulled a 5x16 with the 4020 in stubble ground for years in 3rd and 4th gear but in hay ground or sod it was second or 3rd and had to run 20 suit case weights to keep the front end down because the draft was lifting so hard

Case sold them as a seven plow tractor, but most found that was too much. Many took one off and pulled 6 and got more done. Six was common when they were new.

Jon, looks great. Kevin emptied the seed oat storage bin this past week and put the combine away. They have sold fare more seed and feed oats than any other year.
I am hoping my young helper will come and stay with us this summer. He was a great help, and he loved running the tractors.
You will have to tweek your DOM system to get all the traction you can, to pull that plow. Hope you have lots of front weight.
Loren

That 6 bottom plow sure looks good behind the 1030. If you had soil like ACG you could really roll the dirt.....heavy soil????
