Just can't dig it anymore

I had right shoulder surgery a few years ago, it still hurts sometimes and my left hurts most of the time. I am finding that I cannot do things that have sudden changes, like scraping with a shovel or pitching a ball.

Have not had surgery but have had shoulder problems for many years. Physical therapy and sticking with the regimen is the only thing that gives improvement. Exercise and ice. Good luck to you!

I've had both shoulders operated on. One is pretty well worn out again. The other one was so bad it took nearly two years to gain anything resembling normal use. Can lift with the biceps but anything that puts stress on the shoulder joints is quite painful. Can do nothing above chest level. I may be looking into a joint replacement for the right one this fall after hunting season. Anything to do with messed up shoulder joints is the pits and just plain miserable..

I know what you are talking about. I was thinking of surgery, but I hear a lot of things like it doesn't help. My left shoulder hurts all the time. I was pulling a tire out of my trailer, and I felt something let loose. That was about a year ago it has hurt ever since. Pulling up on my tractor is the worst. My right shoulder has a rotator cuff tear, also hurts pulling up on my tractor., It's been over three years. Doesn't hurt a lot, putting on a jacket, or shirt is a problem. Stan

Had both rotator cuffs repaired. One has 4 screws holding it in place. I have no pain whatsoever from them. Didn't take all that long to heal up but I had them done during the winter time when work was slow. Never went to a therapist. Only followed the doctors instructions on what to do after surgery.

I am fine if I push constantly, it hurts if I hit something and stop suddenly, or slip and move fast.

Everyone's situation is different. Had a rotator repaired along with one reattachment ten years ago. Best thing I ever could have done. I have full rotation with very little pain. It does crunch painlessly when I raise my arm, probably scar tissue.

I fell on my right shoulder from the rear of a P/U truck many years ago causing the shoulder (horizontal) bone to pop up about half an inch at the shoulder-arm joint. Initially the arm was useless; hung my thumb on my belt when walking around to take the weight of my arm stress off the joint. Put up with it for a year or two. Went to an Orthopedic Surgeon and he didn't see anything to fix. So I put up with it. Took a long time, but it returned to it's proper place and the arm is functional again, but I do have to be careful and not stress it...works ok.

Another problem that developed was my right hand got to where it wouldn't close, would only go from full open palm to half closed. Got into taking Swanson Vitamins item # SW1138 as recommended on the bottle. Over the course of roughly a year the hand slowly went back to normal and today I have no idea that I ever had a problem.....I can squeeze your hand in a handshake and make you say ouch!

I know that sometimes the knife is what it takes. But the problem I have with it is that once it's done it's done. If you don't like the results you can't put the parts back in!

It takes several days for me to accomplish what I should have been able to do in 1/2 of a day or so, but I can still do it. I just don't get in a hurry anymore.

I fell and jarred my left arm 9 years ago, hurt on and off for a couple years. One day I stretched and felt something pop up under my shoulder blade, shoulder has been fine since.

I do find that doing things where I'm pulling something in towards me a lot, also pulls my top ribs out, which can pinch the nerves running to your arms. Which can lead to neck muscles tightening and pulling the bones out of place in the neck.

Luckily I have a good chiropractor.

Interesting. Remember the thriller with Mel Gibson and Danny Glubber as cops where Mel had this "out of socket shoulder" that he could uncouple and recouple to suit him....like getting out of the straight jacket under water. Wonder if that was fact or fiction?
