Ih 1486 slack in shaft

I have a ih 1486 with a open hydraulic system. While doing some troubleshooting on some low pressure, I pulled the mcv pump and notice the gear on pump had been hitting the mcv. Then looking inside it looks like it has been hitting the housing alot. Checked the flywheel and see that there is some slack in the shaft causing movement. Is this something to be concerned about? Guessing it would take alot to address this. Or is this one of those let it ride situations?

I would not think you should have any looseness in the shaft as it is the pump shaft and the pump would be shot if it moves as you say.

Its has nothing to do with my hydraulic issues. More about general concern. The shaft that has play is my main shaft and flywheel not on pump.

How big of a pain is it going to be to change that and is it worth it is the questions

The IDPTO driven gear is not going direct to the flywheel . It is driven off the IDPTO inputshaft and gear from above that goes into the pressure plate . The driven gear and the PTO DRIVE shaft that your looking at has a bearing inft of it that is a taper bearing that is suppose to hold the driven gear tight up against the snap ring your looking at by shimming the preload of the ft. bearing and the bearing retainer cap . I am not going to get into the propper set up of the shaft so get a book and read up on this . This shaft runs on back thru the speed transmission low hollow shaft and into the ft. of the range transmission and when doing a split that lower shaft will stay with the range section when you remove the speed transmission and that gear will come off the shaft then and you let it drop out the bottom cover . Usually you do not have a problem with that shaft or loose fitting gear unless you have a problem feather on back at the rear bearing or someone shimmed it wrong sometime in the past. So since i am not there to see for myself i really can't say what is going one or where your problem is .

Thats for all the input. You are right its not flywheel or crankshaft. I was using wrong terms. That gear and shaft is what has movement,As you can see from, picture in first post it is hitting housing. I will look in my book when I get a chance, im currently on a turnaround. But in general with that kind of movement I do need to,address this now correct?
