4490, 34' triple K

Alright all, I'm pretty nervous here as I bought a konskilde sbc 34' triple k cultivator with rolling baskets thinking my case 4490 would pull it all day long. Previously I was pulling 30 feet of 3 rank melroe multiweeder and you could hardly tell it was back there. I am starting to think I may have bitten off more then I can pull. I know that tractor data says the 4490 is 153 drawbar hp and 175 pto hp, but which is the right number to consider? Alot of machinery dealers claim these tractors were 200. I never used to really worry about it, but now I would like to know which number a fella should consider when making such purchases. PTO or drawbar?

Pulled a 25 foot melroe multi weeder for years with
a dualed up 4020 in plowed ground . I?d think a
4490 would pull more than a 4020 I?m not sure .
You go with drawbar horsepower. Pto and or
engine power means absolutely nothing

As long as you compare just
use the same number for all
and the comparison is equal.
Most 4 wheel drive tractors
are rated like modern tractors
at engine hp. And that tractor
should be about 225 rated
engine hp. But they can be
cranked up to 270 or so which
is what I think the 4690 ran.
Whether you can pull that much
will depend on soil type and
terrain. Lots of hills and
hard ground and it could be a
full load. In most going it
should be ok as long as you
don't try to run 6" deep.

I had the opportunity to buy a 4490 but the rear
steering doesn?t work and for what I want I?d have to
have the rear steering

I have a 2470 and 4690 Case tractors. The 2470 (same hp as 4490) will pull the JD 30' multi-weeder at 7 mph(3-3). The Case 30' field
cultivator and 30' melroe drag are run in 3-2 (5.7). Fuel is turned 1/4 turn over factory spec giving it 200 hp.. I think in 3-2 you will be
fine and it will surely handle it in 2-3.

pto is what all tractors were rated at , until a few years ago , now they do fly wheel ,engine . where are you at ? here that would be a big load on a triple k to pull it at the speed it is built to run at .here is north west ohio .

I am in nothern MN. Soil is lighter, so I have that going for me. Tractor is stock and I am thinking now that I got the triple K home you are exactly right. I will be able to pull it, but not efficiently or at the speed it was built to be pulled at to do a good job.

I dont even know if I could find a technician who could do this around here anymore.

Plus I would be scared to turn it up.

Take the cover with 4 bolts off the rear of the pump, in the bottom is a set screw with a lock nut. Turn that in 1/2-1 turn for more power. If it's factory spec now that won't hurt it. Just watch temps to see if you went too far.
