Getting ready for paint

Got started on the 15.5.38 set of duals. Going to clean them up and get rid off all the pieces still left on the rim from when I cut the old centers out

That's a bad job! Running that wire wheel to clean up rims. It's fun pulling pieces of wire out of your shirt and paints the rest of the day. But looks good when your done. Post a pic of when they are all painted up.

Yes, nasty job. I hope you are wear a respirator in addition to your safety glasses. That old paint and rust is nasty. Since I had my surgery that stuff really bothers my sinuses so I have to be very careful. I cannot smell after the surgery so I have to be double careful.

For jobs like that I found you need lots of different forms of wire brushes to get to all the areas.

Are you going to straighten those rim edges. Looks like a approx. 1" rod used as a punch would roll those edges back nicely.

Ya, that will look nice. I would like to know what you use for primer and paint.

Pictures later?

Thanks for sharing.

Lately when I wire wheel any big projects that are not sandblasted to be prep for paint. I wear safety glasses, ear protection, good dust masks and a hat. I also found a old apron that was my grandfather's works well to protect from the wire coming out of the wheel. Also a heavy long sleeve shirt and blue jeans.

Also two grinders with different style wheels, a few different wheels for 90deg air grinders and drill motors.

We are using Dupont Enron industrial enamel for top coat and DuPont etching primer. It has worked well so far and is very durable. I didn't have any pics of wheels, the picture is of a grill but same products used.

Much faster and easier if you have a 7.5 inch sander/buffer with a 40 or 80 grit sanding disc. Even a 5 inch DA sander is faster and much safer.

Going to use John Deere primer and paint . I hate grinding nothing like coughing up grinder dust for the Next week . I hadn?t thought about straightening the rims I didn?t realize they were that bent either might give it a try . They will look a lot better than they did I hope

Not saying you can’t, and I have also done it, but they recommend epoxy.
