Hey 4520--meet 4620!

My Son went to put the 10 bolt hubs on his 4630 and found out the wedges were 4 inches instead of 3 5/8's, He had this 4620 bought for a "project" so we went and got it. The 4630 and the 4620 have the same size axles so we brought it down to my place to take the wedges out. They were in there good-probably have not been out for 50 years. The Son used to work at a Deere dealership and knows the tricks for getting them out--A big impact wrench, patience and a BFH. We got them out and lucked out--broke nothing-surprise---Tee

Hey I bought worse looking tractors.. I have a set of cast centers off a 5020 with wedges and maybe a set of a 4520. Both tractors had cast duals when I bought them.

tried to find the pics of my 4520 when I bought it, a true basket case. I think the pic were in my desk or toolbox when the flood hit. I am sure mom kept some pics but have no idea where they ended up.

I don?t know much about that generation of Deere but I?m curious about your trailer. I?ve never been a big fan of tri axles and dual wheels are beloved targets of inspectors around here. It looks like yours are 19.5? wheels? How do you like them? Thanks, Sam

Sam-That is my Son's trailer-He put them on after he bought it. Don't know much about them for my trailer is dual wheel tandem but he has hauled some heavy loads with it--will ask him for you when I see him.---Tee

I can't believe how heavy that center section of the wide front is built. I think Deere overbuilt the whole tractor for the hp. it has!---Tee

I weighed my 4520 at 15,500. no fluid but a heavy cast weight, I darn near flipped my cherry picker pulling the wheel. I hauled a 5020 home 100 miles on a F350 SRw truck, talk about a load. I found a floor board for a 5020 yesterday while looking for other parts if ya need one.

A neighbor has a couple trailers with 17.5" wheels. Both Kaufman. I'd hate to have to change one on the gooseneck. Big one-piece flat-face lug nuts like the old dodge duals used. That needed torqued to 350 ft-lb. Couldn't cost much more to put on the 2 piece that only need 175.

My first tractor I bought on my own was a 4520. I bought it in collage. Sold it a year after I got out. Wanted another one ever since then. Very much over-built for the horsepower.

That is something I couldn't understand. I bought a fully cosmetically restored (drive train only had 3900 hrs and was in pristeen condition), new OEM paint and decals, new cab interior, new 134a AC system, new rubber, really nice 1979 4230 back in 2005 when I retired. I needed to move the rears for some reason and in researching the subject found out what you know about knocking the wedges out.

I found it absurd to have to take a 20 lb sledge and beat the ell out of your nice new tractor to be able to move the rears. I got it done at a tire shop but marks were there from the process.....ugh!
