I found a good deal on a IH 584 with the mechanical 4wd and was wondering if it was worth buying or not.

Are parts still available for the 4wd? it has a loose pinion bearing for sure and not sure what else it might need if I get into it.

I'm just worried a "good deal" might turn into a parts NLA money pit.

You might want to post this on the IH/Farmall board on this site- Lots more specific knowledge over there. I wasn't aware that the 584 even came in a 4WD version.

Many of the small 4wd tractors used front axle assemblies that were built by other companies. I had a Ford 5640 , and the front axle was built by Cararo I believe. And parts for some Zetor tractor front axles could be interchangeable. I have no idea who built the front axle under the IH 584 , but they built and sold these tractors in England. And probably sold them in England long before they were offered in North America.

CaseIH has all their parts books online with prices and availability of parts if you create an account and select a dealer.

You can also go directly to Messick's website and look up parts, availability, and prices there.

I have an IH 884 w/mfwd, the front drive assembly is the German manufactured "ZF" brand. I've had no trouble at all in getting parts from my Case/IH dealer. I'm sure that the 584 would be similar.

There were two front drive axles, Kimco (flange mount rims) and ZF (planetary hubs in middle of rim center)

I understand the Kimco axle can be challenging, I also understand only the red/white inline shift 584s could have it.

H shift pattern solid red 584 should be ZF
