8n question

you said it was close to 20 lbs. press. so pump has to be working. to find out actual pressure need to install a master guage.

The pump will fill the oil filter canister. it has done that already. It is a bypass system that has a small orifice connection to the filter. the filter then bleed oil back into the block. There is nothing to gain from looking in there. The filter doe not have pressure in it. Jim

Does it have a 50 lb. or 80 lb gauge? It should have a 50 lb gauge and therefore the needle stands higher(a little deception to the eye).

Not sure. Will have to look tomorrow. It sure is smoking!!! Looks like we were fogging mosquitoes.

Good chance it smokes a lot due to sticking rings from sitting 2 plus years. 20-15 oil do you maybe mean 20W-50 oil?? I'd not try the top off the oil filter canister thing because doing so will make a mess plus cause lack of oil pressure so no oil to the bearings etc. The N series engine run on low pressure so 30 or 40 at start up then 5 after warm is normal

Used 30 weight oil. Added some marvel mystery oil. Oil pressure is 25-30 at cold start. After it warms up it's about 10-15 consistently.

Ok then oil pressure is not the problem but good chance sticking rings are and it needs a simple ATF treatment. As in a 1/4 cup of ATF in the cylinders then let sit 24-48 hour then pull the plugs spin it over to clear the ATF out then fire it up

I thought about calling you today but didn't guess I should have LOL. My 1950 8N smokes and uses some oil but then again it has a good reason for doing so since it was under water in 2015. I did use the 8N today for some ditch digging but it has the Scout backhoe on it. By the way isn't it past your bedtime LOL

Yep. Was way past bed time. We spent the day with my folks. Got home late. My dad drove that 8N all over his place. Mom wasn't happy with the tracks everywhere!! Lol

i didnt see the original post, but if that 20 lbs pressure is at or near idle , that is completely normal for a n series tractor
