FWD binding

I have a 7635 NH that seems to bind up when in 4wd on hard surfaces. I don't drive it on the road in 4wd but when you put on the brakes it automatically shifts to 4wd for better braking, when you take off again it feels bound up then clunks out of 4wd and is OK. I replaced front tires with like size but they must be off just a little in circumference. Any way to correct the problem. The rears have probably 80 % tread on them.

I don?t know that your problem is due to the tire size. I think most FWA tractors are setup so that the front turns several % faster than the rear so that it continues to pull when you turn. Looking forward to seeing the other replies. Sam

You are not going to correct the problem with tires. You need to realize That the Arc that the front wheels follows is much bigger than the rear wheel arc. The front wheel have to travel many more feet to complete the arc than the back wheels do and they are connected mechanically so the front wheels are holding back and the rears are spinning. Nothing you can do about it on a hard surface. Your conventional 4wd pickup does the same thing.
You need to refer back to your High School geometry classes.

The guy I sometimes work for has a big Ford/NewHolland that automaticly shifts out of 4wd when you shift into high gear. There is also an electronic switch that controls different 4wd functions.

my tn 75 has a selector switch which is 4x4 or antislip you have to switch off the antislip on pavement or it will engage the 4x4 for braking I also have a differancle lock switch that will lock all 4 wheels and limit steering

Friend of mine bought a new JD a few years ago it was binding in 4WD,he's a mechanic so after some testing he changed tire size on the front and it solved the problem think he went 1 size smaller.Put it in 4WD on a hard flat surface in neutral roll it by hand if it starts to bind up you need to change something or only use the 4WD where the wheels get some easy slippage.

I think that you should check your tire sizes. The gearing is set up, as others have said, so that the fronts will be "pulling" the rears around the corners to a degree, otherwise steering would not work well. If you have replaced rears so that they are high tread and the fronts are worn, you could be in a situation of the ratio being too far off.

Hope you get it figured out. I have the same tractor and don't notice that problem. If you start going too fast in 4 x4 I get a pretty good whine to remind me to kick it out. This tractor for me has been tough as nails and it has been good to me. Good luck. My tires are fairly worn though.
