Trailer battery

I have only been checked once. And what he made me do is pull the Tab and made me pull my truck up a little bit to see if it was working. I dont think the police or DOT would spend there time with a volt meter.

It appears that a trailer equipped with electric brakes must have a battery capable of application of the brakes. I do not see where a battery must able to be tested. commercial restrictions for commercial hauling are probably different. Testing might be allowed at a safety/weight station. No idea if that is true. Jim
Ca general rules

Not a test switch, but the break away key can be pulled, see if they apply.

I've never been asked to check it at random. But if there were an accident I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

yes there is a battery test switch on trailers. its just a button u push and it shoes green or red for battery being good or dead. its right where the battery is in the black box.

I think most of the new trailers have them. My trailer is 7 years old and has one and battery is inside this case.

If my 2014 trailer has one it is inside the box. The about 20 year old trailer never had a battery.

I?ve been through several trailer safety checks , they?ve become big on that around here, I got tired of the battery not holding up on my gooseneck, so I wired mine into the two group 31 truck batteries that power my winch and hydraulic ramp pump. Only one ever tested it, he made me unplug the trailer then pulled the pin and asked me to pull forward, all four tires locked hard with 2000 amps and he was more than happy

My 14k implement trailer has the same battery. There's a charger too. Truck battery charges it. I have removed my battery and charged it with battery minder. Then used midtronics to measure amps. I wrote down amps when it was new 7 years ago.

Don't know how anyone can carbon load test a battery that doesn't have cranking amps on it.

Dump trailer uses the 12v battery that is used to run hydraulic pump.
