This is my first post so I'll try to stay on point. I inherited a Deutz-Fahr D6807 (1982 model) about two years ago after my father died. I've done a lot of routine maintenance (changed fluids and filters, exhaust manifold gasket, clean-out cooling fins, etc) but I have not changed the hydraulic fluid or filter. I have added fluid to the reservoir once or twice and the fluid in the reservoir always looked "good" (Not foaming or milky).
Recently, the hydraulic system just stopped working as in 3-point-lift and steering - both just stopped functioning at the same time. I'm going to change the filter and fluid first in hopes that the pump has not gone bad but I do not see a drain plug for the hydraulic reservoir.
The filter housing is in the floor just in front of the seat bracket, and the fill/dipstick for the reservoir is just behind the seat beside the 3-point height-control lever. My dad was a hard worker and a good teacher but not the most vigilant man when it comes to maintenance so I doubt the fluid/filter for this system has been changed in quite some time.
The remnants of the operating manual that I have mention using a "suction device or hand pump" for changing the fluid and there is no mention of a drain plug. If that's the only way then ok - but is there a better way to drain-off more of the fluid in the system like disconnecting the supply line somewhere before the pump?
