ford jubilee hydraulic issues

I recently bought a 1953 ford jubilee and have been slowly restoring it. The rear lift did not work when I bought it. I rebuilt the rear hydraulic lift with new gaskets and a new lift piston. That got the piston to move but I feel like there is not enough pressure to keep the lift up with weight on it. The lift will stay up if I manually move it up but if I put any weight on it, it will go down. I was wondering if there is an issue with the external hydraulic pump on the side of the motor that is keeping the rear lift from maintaining enough pressure to keep the rear lift up. If anyone has any knowledge on why this would happen I would greatly appreciate it.

If I remember there is a lever on hyd pump
that will turn it off. Have you turned
this? There is a port to check for
pressure. I can't tell you on here where
it is. Go on down to Ford forum and ask
there. Hooe this helps.

Ours did not have a lever like that. But it is a problem with shot pumps That is why we traded ours off back in 1980 because the pump was bad, would not pick up cultivator. Orignal was if I remember correctly a vane type of pump. and unrepairable. Heard after we got rid of ours a replacement piston was avaible. But when we got rid of ours we mover up to a 3 cylinder 4000 of 20 more horsepower. Would still like to have a good Jub tho.
