JD 2155 PTO problem

Hi, I'm new to the forum and was hoping I could get some guidance on a PTO problem.

I have a 1992 JD 2155. Last year I was using my brush hog to mow and hog out 1" brush. It worked good over several hours of work. In the fall I started to have problems as the brush hog would slow down and not cut grass after about 20 feet after starting to cut.

I'm wondering what you all might suggest is my first step. I did buy the TM-4435 manual, but it really doesn't have a trouble shooting process. I do see the information on the PTO control valve assembly, but not sure I should dive deeper into that without some definitive testing.

Any suggestions?

Much appreciated, Joe

I agree with other posters one needs to check to determine if cutter has a slip clutch & if it's slipping.

What type pto does 2155 have(hyd independent or dual stage clutch)?

Thank you all for your responses. Very logical that I should thoroughly check the mower before the tractor. I guess I was jumping the gun. However, I did take the mower apart looking for a shear pin or sacrificial bolt. All looked to be in tact but I did not investigate the clutch. I will do that. It will be a month or so until I can check the mower thoroughly as it is in a snow bank now :) Once I do I will respond and share my findings.

Tx Jim, I have an independent PTO on this tractor. Is there any way to check the PTO function without a Dynometer? I guess I could rent another brush mower and see how that works.

Joe
