Am trying to finish up my gas tank and put back on tractor; I have sanded- grinding - and sanded more; I primed it and painted - still has places of old paint I cant get off-still looks like crap - any ideas from you guys? More grinding I suppose....does a good "paint stripper" work very well? Thanks.

I used Purple Power to clean out a tank and it says it will take paint off and sure will, cleaned part and then primered it.

Before you go totally crazy. You can try plasting with bakeing soda and 5here are shops who use dryice. You should see how neat that stuff works!

If you are talking about the outside - 1. Can you see the affected areas ? 2. get a decent orbital sander and a variety of discs (start with #50) and have at it. You should be able to get to bare metal with #50 or #60. Finish to taste. HTH

Difficult to say about paint stripper. Not long ago the government banned the sale of methylene chloride for DIY use. Removers are just not any good without it. I bought a gallon of Klean Strip remover which I've been using for years only to find out it had been re-formulated. I went to strip a piece of furniture and started with the three doors and the remover did almost nothing. The doors still need to be stripped again.
