Let's discuss plows

I was looking at a bunch of stuff at an old guys place and I got to wondering how hard is it to take shares and mold boards off one brand of plow and modify to fit something else? He had several parts where he had a 3 bottom and removed outside one. Well those singles are just laying around in near mint condition. Cutting and welding , may make em work? Opinions??

My brother in law,had a 3-14 Ihc P @ O plow and put put Oliver plow moleboard's on it, he said they bolted on, i eventually bought it from him, i just use it at plowdays!

The answer will depend on how close they are to start with. Some are very close and might fit by just moving a hole or two. Others have different angles and radius and twist and would require a forge and significant reworking.

fwiw, that is for an older Allis chalmers plow. a friend commented years ago, "you can try and plow uphill with an allis plow, and watch the turned ground flop right back into the furrow as you go". the only Allis plow I would consider as doing a good job were the very last models made before the company died. those would all be 3 point. the one in the picture should have been from a snap coupler plow.
that said, most frogs were held onto the ?shank? by 3 bolts. changing frogs from one brand to another would depend on the bolt spacing. bolt holes in shares and moldboards would be made specific to the spacings on the frog. Allis moldboards must have had less curve, leading to the problem my friend commented about. if I was going to try and change parts between brands, I would definitely start with something other than Allis. BUT, if you were a diehard Allis guy with a WD-45 and plow, those parts could be gold.

One of the pictures of the disc plow is an IH fasthitch as you can see the fasthitch points sticking out if the debris. Do not cut that one up there is a market for those it is worth more complete or if in very poor condition it will make a parts unit to fix another unit.
