Trying to find a book I read

Years ago I read a book by an author who is known for other works but decided to write about his tractor hobby.

Focused on Allis Chalmers WD's if I recall. One passage recounted how he and a friend dragged a long abandoned tractor out of a hedgerow and fired it up after splashing some gasoline down the throat of the carb.

Wish I could remember the author, title or anything else that would be helpful. I've done a search but all I'm coming up with is AC tractor books.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I know who you are asking about but cannot think of his name now. He has several books out on this subject.

Thanks, all---Robert Welsch it is! A man of many interests, looks like he has a few of these books under his belt.

I think the one titled Old Tractors and the Men who Love Them is the one I read. Going to check into the other ones under his name as well. Glad I asked, THANK YOU!

This guy?

Roger welsh he used to write about old tractors in
the successful farming magazine . He also did a
show called post cards from Nebraska

Roger Welsch. Good books and a funny
read. I think I've heard he used to haunt
these forums but that might have been a
long time ago.

I think he collected WC's, IIRC. He said you should stick to one model, that way the better half couldn't tell if you'd got yet another one, or just re-arranged the ones you already had.

Funny, this is the second time in a week
that that I've heard this name. In my
earlier conversation I have reason to
believe that he was a block man for AC.

One of the funnier things in his books was when he described how to negotiate with a junkyard owner on used tractor parts ! I have all his tractor books but don't remember off hand which one that was in now.
