Jump start charger with AGM batteries

This is a Schumacher PSJ-4424 and has at least one bad battery (shows exploded) and bad switch that sets either the 12 V or 24 V position. Have any of you worked (repaired) these? A new battery is about $38 and a new control switch is about $39. Seems quite worth repairing, even if replacing both batteries. Photos are of the two halves of the switch.

Can't get the 2nd picture to load. Why?

As I said, can't get the 2nd picture to load. The picture that did load is the movable-contacts part of the switch.

From the looks of the switch, it appears to have been dead shorted.

Also if one of the batteries exploded, something caused a short, there was something wired incorrectly, or there is an internal circuitry problem.

In other words, be careful going back together, these problems may have been a symptom of another problem. Just a guess...

Took a lot of smoke to do that job. You are going to need to carefully look things overas you start screwing things together. Leave the clamps unhooked and measure the voltage with your meter. Some run as high as 18v in runaway. Other guys know about these too. Wait for them to look. I have seen a shorted transformer that read almost 80vac. No wonder batteries boiled.

Not familiar with your charger. If it has two 12v batteries you may want to replace the pair.

Electric wheelchairs have two 12v batteries that make 24v. You always want to replace both even though one goes bad.

Same with 24v trolling motors, replace the pair and use the old battery in something else.
