Repainting Question

In past years when repainting a tractor chassis where we were painting over a painted surfaces I used a product call XIM Flashbond 300. It was to promote good adhesion to
the old painted surface. You sprayed a coat of that product first and then top coated it with your normal paint. It always worked well I though, but is no longer
available. Anyone use a similar product that they would recommend? Rod.

look up a Sherman Williams product dimension ds679 it is classed as a sealer but I have had good luck with it when doing paint on both tractors and trucks.

I would call Rust-oleum and see what they say. Maybe this replaces
Flashbond 300. Don't know just guessing.

I think there are other products similar to it, but I have always used Flasbond.
Might try to search for adhesion promotors.

Search for adhesion promoters. There is a lot of different products on the market for that purpose. In the end though it mostly comes down to how well the old paint is cleaned prior to painting. Even with the slightest trace of oil in the old paint and the adhesion promoter won't help you. The surface of paint is to a certain amount porous and oil can get into it. This is one of the reason we wax cars. To remove what oil is penetrated into the paint you might use a wax and grease remover or if the grease had been bad on the surface you might use oven cleaner and a power washer a couple of times.
