Which one to choose?

If you had to choose between these three tractor not for no performance. But for cosmetic and repairs which tractor would you choose. IH 806 diesel IH 856 diesel IH 1066.

The 1066. I'd rather repair a wet sleeve engine than a dry sleeve any day..

856 for better shifting and a bit more power.1066 for more power. Plus the DT414 is more popular these days,and easier to overhaul with cheaper parts.But 856 for me is top. I'm not a fan of 66 series,simply because they are tall and wide. I have issues with the steering,too.I'd rather have a 1256 than any of the others listed.The frame/body of the 856,the power of a 1066.

I'm with both Delta and Dieseltech,for both reasons. The 856 would be my first choice I think. Hard decision. Like the 856 and the 1066 is the cheaper easier to rework the engine though the 856 looks sharper to me. 806 is a good tractor the shifting is the downfall on them though. We own all threes series.

I?ve got a 756, 806, and 1086. I believe I?d pick the
56 series. However, I do like each for differing
reasons.

Late 856. If those were the only 3 to chose from.

I would choose in the opposite order they were built. 1066 definitely first.

1066 would be the one I would pick, I have always liked the 06 and 66 tractors, I have a 1466 and working on a rebuild on a 706 right now.

Why do you say SHIFTING on the 06 ??? if you set them wright they will shift with two fingers . Yea ya have to go thru everything to get to Rev . bu when the are set they will FLOW thru the pattern . where the problem start is when the clutch gets out of adjustment and the dump valve set get off , that is when the tugging and jerking starts then it start to compound all the problems . People do not stay up on things , yea sure ya change the oil and filters BUT do you really stay up on what needs to be checked , adjusted lubed Nope . Just run the bag off them then complain when stuff does not work wright.
