Best time to cut wild onions.

I am in N.W. Alabama and I have a lot of wild onions all over my lawn.
It is my understanding that if cut right time of year, they will be less troublesome.
If this is true, what time of year is best to cut?

Only thing I can think of is to cut them before the tops go to seed ? but I usually have several to mow off early in the year and keep them mowed down all year, but still have plenty every year to mow ?

If you like the smell of onions it must be great mowing the yard. I've got a few in my yard. I'm in western NY and we have areas here loaded with wild onions. They are hard things to get rid of. Its possible to spray them and kill every thing around them but for every bulb that is growing and killed by spray there is more bulbs and seeds waiting for a space to start growing. I would think where you are would get hot enough most of the year for them to go dormant.
