I used to have an image of a protein chart on my iPad but I?ve lost it. I would love to have something that isn?t for the health food nut, but for the cattle farmer instead. I want to compare useable protein of things like wheat, milo, corn, alfalfa, soybean meal, and/or distillers (these are new products to me), etc. I have gotten down to a pretty efficient herd but I?m looking for good protein sources or protein for the mixer grinder for lactating cows. I?ve used ground wheat, corn, and milo for the last 40 years but there have to be better options. There are a few small breweries around here so if I could get something to leave in an old straight truck and add to each ration I?d be open to that for sure. I?m looking to keep learning and not do it the same way we did when I was younger
On a side note - went to my annual farm profit meeting. The presenter was saying that around here (NE KS) you are a fool if you are still growing wheat as a profit crop. That is something we I figured out a while back. I do a little for feed for grinding but that?s about it. If I do 20 acres I?m about average for my use. He said the time will come because of Argentina that he will be saying the same of soybeans. I still put in about 700 acres of those - it?s time for some more learning.
