Rest easy, buyer #57

There was a junk man living near Comfrey, MN. He was at nearly every farm auction I went to. At least one auctioneer just had him as permanent bidder #57.

He was the typical old set in his ways and peculiar fella, but I always enjoyed passing a minute of conversation with him.

He passed away this week, 90.

I never made it on his place, but he had 15-20acres of stuff. I guess you went there on a Sunday if you wanted to look for parts to salvage, as the only day there aren?t farm auctions.....

Just a char hater if you ever met him.

Just a character if you ever met him, is what I was saying. Rest easy, Lloyd.

Reminds me of a guy here. When he died and they had his estate auction, they sold a whole building full of plunder that was in the same boxes and buckets that it was in when he brought it home from auctions.

Dang spell check, I let that get out before I got it corrected....

Character. He was a character. Bet he was a millionaire, but had the worse clothes of any auction attendee, etc. in southern MN everyone saw Lloyd if you went to an auction.

We had a local guy who bought the dollar boxes. He took them home and sorted them out on tables in his barn. He had tables of hammers, grease guns, plumbing fittings, nails, ect. It was like a permanent rummage sale (except when he was at an auction).

(quoted from post at 14:44:27 03/10/19) It seems nobody proofreads anymore!

Most of us do. But even then one gets past once in a while.
On most forums you can go back and edit if you miss one. But not here.....

After most posts here on YT I thought the spell checker was either broken or disabled.

This story is off to the side of this subject. A younger lady I know sent out a group text inviting her friends to a deck party at her house. She did a verbal text and the phone translated her voice into printed words. The translation went a bad when the word deck ended up being the word se#. She sent it off without proofing. The word WOW was used in about every text sent back to her. LOL

Have a few of those char haters around central Mn as well. The auctioneers always know what they?re good for. We?re losing some of those with the decline of on site auctions.

One of those characters was Ormond Beier of Regal, MN. Went to every auction around, always following the action...would carefully inspect every item and auction box...but very seldom bid. Always fun to see him at an auction, but met a tragic death when he and his wife were in an auto accident. Killed both of them...neither party stopped at a rural intersection.

Yes, Lloyd. I was there once about 20 yrs. ago. bought some IH. split weights from him for the 560. Wife has an Uncle same way. lives on hy. 83 by Waldorf. Perhaps you have driven past his place. Acres of stuff. I don't know about Lloyd but do know Uncle is a millionaire.

Had a fellow like that here. He went to every auction and bought the $1-2 items. Took them home and sorted them out then had "yard sales" all the time. What I disliked about this fellow was he was drawing a full SS disability for a bad back. I have personally seen him roll a 55 gallon barrel of used oil up a board into his pickup truck. Back not in too bad of shape.

It was rumored he was from back East and was working as a dock worker. He got hurt and the union got him the full disability. He took some of his cash settlement and bought the small farm here.

He was Slavic and spoke broken English.

Waldorf, we used to go there to free out door movies as a kid when we lived between there and Minn Lake. Also Matawan.

I've been by the place by Waldorf. Stopped in there years ago once and bought something from him--don't remember what it was anymore. Haven't been by there lately.

Tried to get to Lloyd?s at least once a year to see what was new in stock! Twenty years ago that place was packed with everything you could imagine! Hope someone keeps it going as it was fun to just check it out and get oddball parts for some project. RIP Lloyd!
