My uncle built this boat when he retired . I have spent the winter restoring it. The stick is how you steer while standing to net crabs. Come on summer!

I visited my grandpaw down in Rockport, Tx. on the Gulf Coast in the summers. We'd wade along in crystal clear water about waist deep with a dip net, netting Blue Crabs, flip them into the boat and go till we were tired. Interesting getting back into the boat and getting home with the bottom full of crabs ready to get you.....had to keep your feet up on the "cross plank" seats. It was a similar looking boat, 16' planked (lead and okum sealed planks), 10 hp Johnson back when the gas tank was on top of the engine and the reverse was to turn the tiller 180 * It was tiller control and I had to get up in the bow to get it to plane.......barely. Great sport.
 
Every now and then we see a sticker on a vehicle, crab shape with MD flag. Long way from home if we see em in Alabama! One day I'm gonna order one. One day I want to take my wife and kids to MD ,show em where I grew up.
 
I went crabbing one time with a college buddies son-in-law on the Chesapeake. Had a blast, but I sure didn't impress them much. Crabs were great and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful... really neat project. Especially cool because your uncle built it.
 
I give you a lot of credit for the nice restoration.
However, I think your uncle deserves even more credit for building it. It's a beautiful boat.
 
really nice crab boat--flat shallow hull---do you crab in deep water as you have a long shaft outboard--I crab on great south bay ny and it is so shallow have to use short shaft outboards
 
nice job! did you paint that Evinrude motor also.? I have a 15 h. p. 1979 model from new and have never seen that color. mine is white with light blue.
