l am working on a 1950 ford'8n with front distributor.ran couple months ago I bought it from another person.been change to 12 volt wires were all messed up and he rewire it .new plugs new wires.new magneto.fresh gas I live in northern Mississippi

When was the last time it was running? How was it running? Any reason to think the timing has changed since last ran. (mechanical work, points or plugs changed out distributor moved) Whats the battery condition? Sometimes when cranking there is not enough juice going to the points and it tries to go late in the rotation causing a sort of backfire. Are all the plug wires on the correct plugs. Plenty of questions and we need more info to help you. gobble

was running good before he started rewire it was running a bush hog with it points distributor not been moved new plugs new wires what is firein order an what do points set on

2 lines in your post that are not possible. Front distributor and then new magneto. It cannot be both, only one of the 2 and if a magneto then it is an indrustial engine and not orignal tractor engine unless someone put in a WWII engine as the 8N never had a magneto. And Magneto is not hooked to electric system.

Sounds like the plug wires. Don't those distributors only go in one way on those front end models? I think Royse told me that when we were looking at the one I have been working on.
