Snow storm coming and more roof collapses

I removed the snow from 8 different buildings, two weeks ago. I have about 8 or more inches of snow on my roofs now. This weekend, we are being told that we will get about 6 to 8 inches of heavy snow. If you haven't removed the snow yet, make sure your insurance will cover your losses. The lead story on WCCO was about a dairy farm that has sold their cows because of two roof collapses.

Years ago I heard of a man killed shoving SNOW. He fell through sky light.

Why wouldn't insurance pay for collapsed roof?

There are reports of several building collapses near Bemidji, MN, usually pole barns, but this is some seriously heavy snow this winter. If you live in Minnesota or surrounding states and haven't checked the roofs of your building yet, get to it but don't get underneath.

8 inches of snow on a roof or 8 more making it 16 inches doesn't seem like much snow on a roof for even here in Virginia. We have wet type snow most times and back in 2010 we had 28 inches
fall in one snowfall over 2 days and none of my buildings had any problem.Have several of those Carolina Carports and I was surprised they held up just fine.

depends on what the building is rated for here, if its not up to needed snow load rating for the area and it goes down it does not matter how much insurance you have on it its Your problem not theirs, I do not know about other States

Here in Missouri most insurance companys make you pay extra for snow damage, if you don't ask, most times you don't have it.

Seems that the old hip roof barns shed the snow, don?t get damaged. Newer structures with flatter roofs get crushed.

In idle conversation when I was a lot younger I was told that 6/12 pitched roofs were common up there due to snow loads and control of such. I have since seen 3 and 4/12 pitches in pictures and wonder how they survived.

I'm about to change insurance companies and the new one wants to inspect the premises. Makes sense. Going out on a wire for somebody gives you the right to get rid of gotchas.....a lot of it that I'm sure will get hit is stuff I have been putting off and needed to be done anyway. For what I'm getting and the annual savings, I can put my pride in my pocket and go with the flow.
