If a new battery hasn't had acid added Will it still be good after years of sitting on a shelf, maybe 40 years. This is for a small motorcycle battery. Stan

You are dealing with a pretty old unit. You might luck out. Watch this video to do yours correctly. Don't use a big charger! Just use a little trickle.
Dry charge

If it was sealed or in a relatively dry area, I would think it should still work.

That was the idea behind stocking them dry, the clock didn't start until it was purchased and activated.

Be interesting to try, nothing to loose.

Is the acid pack still good? I would handle it with care, the container might be weakened and ready to break.

Charge it slow and gentle.

The negative plate will oxidize in the presence of a humid environment. It may still work. Charge at 5% or so, and watch the temp while charging.

It's always nice when restoring a motorcycle to have all the original stuff if possible. Like tires and batteries they don't come up for sale often, if ever. Forget about old tires. Stan

Stan if you?ve got the battery I?d say give it a try don?t have anything to lose just be careful charging it the first time

Give it a try , we use to place small batteries like that in a pan of water
so the water was about half way up the side and then charge it slow .
this kept the temp to a min .

I have seen it tried when some people I knew purchased a large quantity of surplus dry batteries, even the ones with the tape seals to keep the cells sealed failed to take a proper charge.

Fast charge, slow charge, smart charge, chemical flushing, they tried about every trick in the book and were only able to save a very small percentage of them.

Maybe they had not been stored properly, I don't know.

With that said if you have it sitting on the shelf I suppose it can't hurt to try.
