EPA Fuel Cans

These new plastic fuel cans are really a P.I.T.A. to use. I bought a 5 gallon blue plastic kerosene can for the torpedo heater. I end up unscrewing the safety nozzle and just pour from the spout into a funnel. I'm sure I'm not the only one, what do you people do to make the can work better?

I had to buy a new plastic gas can with the EPA crap on it. I had the same results that you had. I went to Blaines Farm and Fleet and they had replacement spouts for the new cans. Just a regular spout that fits different sizes of openings and an air vent that you drill a hole in the can and insert. Works great now. Chris

These are the only new style gas cans I can get to work. I mostly use Jerry cans.

rractor supply sells a spout and a vent to convert the new cans to the old style. You just have to drill a 1/2” hole to push the vent into. They work really good

You can buy the replacement spout and they work okay. But once you've used the cans suggested above by Kansas4010 you'll never go back.

I liked them but now they ruined them for diesel; they have a plastic mesh screen in the fill hole to prevent flashback, it doesn?t allow 10 below diesel fuel to flow through.

I needed fuel in my furnace, needed to get 5 gallons of #2 from the tractor fill tank and warm in the basement a couple hours to flow, well I couldn?t use the dang fuel can.

Stupidity. Charge 3x for products that don?t work any more, govt engineering.

Yes, you can buy (I did) those plastic vents by the dozen, if you want, on Ebay. Easy to convert, I did about 6 cans I have and they work just like the old ones.

I agree they are a PITA. I?ve spilled more gas with these new cans than I ever did with the old ones. In addition I get more gas on me than I ever did with the old ones.

Buy the snap in vents off EBay. I thinking I got 20 of them shipped for $7.50. Just drill a hole and snap them in. Makes the cans work a lot better.

Tony I have some cans with valve stems in them. They work but they have such a small center hole they restrict the flow some. You also have to fish them in from the inside.

I ordered several of those kits for all my 5 gal plastic cans, but I had to order the ones that said for water cans. They couldn't ship the gas ones to NH. The kits are exactly the same and they work great.

I have steel Eagle cans. They pour quickly and easily. They are also very cheap compared to plastic. One is ten years old and the other is 44 years old.

I use the ones like Kansas posted. I drill 1/4" holes in the tabs and keep a 1/4" pin tied to the handle. I lay the can on the hood of the tractor, push the button and install the pin to keep the button depressed. Then I go grease the equipment and check the other fluids. When it's empty, I swap cans and keep greasing
