Some work around the kingdom this weekend

Worked on getting the new engine in the 400 this weekend. It needs some modifications to make it work. But I started by putting new front and rear seals in while it was easy to do. Used my redneck clutch tool to align the clutch disc, just a socket with some tape to make it work.

It fits perfect and works great, the engine slipped right on.

Then I had to grind out the manifold a bit as the 400 had smaller ports, the 830 manifolds go out through the hood rather than beside, and the manifold that came with it is from a combine and would have required trimming the hood and fabricating an elbo to turn up because it turned down and to the rear. So a little die grinder work and it fits.

Now I need to get an intake manifold because I seem to have lost the one from the 400 in the move and the one from the combine doesn't work with the 400 exhaust. So another trip to the salvage yard for parts this week. Hopefully the weather will be better next weekend and I can get more done.

Hey Jon.

Nice field modification!

And it is interesting to note that someone other than me does engine work in his shop while enjoying the warm blast from a salamander heater.

I even have a little one that will run 8 hours on it's own battery on propane. Great for working on that machine buried in the snowdrift behind the shop.

jon that will be a mean 400. The first case dad bought was a gas 400.The block is junk. I have a 830 gas engine I want to rebuild to put in 400. Looking good jon. RB

I think that I would have made sheet metal modifications to make the 301 manifolds work. Tin/ sheet metal is much easier to modify than cast iron.
