wish this would have made the options list for the new generation tractors

I like it. But not sure the market in early 60's would have supported the extra cost for cabs. I have 8 mostly old tractors without cabs, but I'm pretty sure my next one will have a good cab. That's the only thing I lack in life!

I agree with you SV. It would really be nice. When its cold and raining I am happy to be in my 3020 with a yearround cab. Lee

Could that prototype cab have been built to test the visibility out of the new center post cab design and test the access to climb in and out of the cab?

It would be interesting to know what the noise level was inside that prototype cab compared to the production version on the Generation II tractors. Factory cabs of the day (except the Case 70 series) were almost all in the 89-95 dB range compared to 81-83dB in SG. Turbo chargers seemed to provided more noise reduction than the early factory cabs did.

Most of the noise reduction in Sound Gard cabs was from isolating the cab from the engine, hydraulics and the transmission. Without integrating the front console, side console, and cab floor into the isolated structure of the cab, the prototype might have been just as loud as the existing factory cabs were. Maybe someone who has retrofit a SG cab onto a new generation tractor has measured the sound level at full throttle, full load?

If they had just moves the exhaust to the other side and made the door wider.

I'm always driving down the wrong side of the road because of the stack blocking my view of the road.

And if you could put your knee under the console. But the magnums have that problem, too.

All interesting thoughts just another instance where John Deere had to offer a lower quality product to keep the price down to match the junk put on the market by lesser companies

That photo looks like a unit from the stable of our own newgencollector- if it were not for those tiny front tires...
